Windows 1809 – CHROME SLOW PAGE RESOLVING

After installing the Windows 10 1809 update I noticed lag in every Chromium-based browser (Chrome, Canary, Brave). Firefox was unaffected. As described in a Microsoft Answers thread, the only fix that worked for me was changing the log-on account of the Windows “Cryptographic Services” service.

Steps: Services > Cryptographic Services > Properties > Log On tab > select Local System account, then restart the service.

This workaround dates from the 1809-era builds where the bug appeared; on current Windows 10/11 the Cryptographic Services should run under its default NetworkService account, and if page resolving lags on a modern install, check DNS-over-HTTPS settings in the browser and the Windows DNS Client service before touching service accounts.
